The Infant Room

0-18 months, 1 staff for every 3 children

Up to ten infants are cared for by highly dedicated and nurturing staff. The babies enjoy a large, bright room with a separate sleeping area to allow individual napping times, and a play space with soft mattress flooring to encourage safe crawling explorations. Weather permitting, the babies are taken out twice daily for walks in the neighbourhood. There is also an infant playground located just outside of the classroom.

Montrose Infant

In our Montrose Infant Room we strongly promote inclusion. We want all the children and families to feel joy and security. It is important for our families to see that their children are given the best quality of care. This helps build strong ongoing relationships between staff and families. We believe that our infants learn their fundamentals through a well structured play setting. We plan all of our experiences based on our observations of their solitary, parallel and group play. We strive for our infants to be nurturing and empathetic towards their peers and most importantly confident in themselves and their capabilities. We as educators do our best to foster and facilitate these ever important skills among the children on a daily basis.

Infant room staff

Nancy (R.E.C.E.)

My name is Nancy and I’ve been working at Montrose since 2001. Through these years I’ve had the opportunity to work with all age groups and Montrose has become my second home. I’m so happy to be working now in the infant room and being able to watch all the infants grow and develop is so rewarding. I also enjoy substituting in the kitchen and being the cook of the day when Joseph is off. When I’m not at work I love to be home and enjoy all my time with my family.

Michelle (R.E.C.E)

Hi, my name is Michelle and I have been working at Montrose childcare care for ten years now. Montrose was one of my field placements while I attended George Brown College and I always knew I wanted to become a part of the team. I am currently working in the Infant room alongside some amazing and supportive room partners. To be able to see children grow and witness so many milestones is the most incredible feeling. Montrose has become a huge part of my life and I am happy to have my son who is currently enrolled in the school age program here as well. We are both grateful to be a part of this community!

Jen (R.E.C.E.)

Hi my name is Jen and I’ve been working at Montrose for over 20 years. I’ve worked in almost all the rooms but I’m currently in the infant room which I love. I graduated from George Brown College with Honors and have also completed the management program there as well. I’m also fluent in French and love to practice the language when I can. In my spare time I spend lots of time with my family.

Ivy (R.E.C.E.)

My name is Ivy. I have been working at Montrose for over 10 years. Montrose is my second family. I am passionate about my job. I was an elementary school teacher in China. I graduated from Seneca College in 2009. I can speak four languages: Cantonese, Mandarin, Taishan Hua and English. My hobbies are zumba dance, making hand-made crafts and gardening. I love doing creative activities with children.
